Graduate Student Coordinators (a.k.a. Rock Stars)

This position is offered to 2-3 first-year graduate students at the Center for Environmental Studies to host prospective grad students and to serve as mentors and all-around awesome contact people for incoming CES newbies.  The role of the Grad Student Coordinator is to answer questions from new students, to serve as liaison between the grad student body and the faculty and staff, and to provide food at meetings.

GIS at Brown

The GIS Institute will be an intensive two-week activity from June 9th – 20th.  It is available for free to interested Brown University graduate students, post-docs, faculty, and staff.  Space is limited and an application form must be filled out on-line. We particularly encourage participation by doctoral students who may have a use for these skills in their research.

El Valor & Forest Service International Programs seek a summer intern for U.S.D.A. International Programs 2008

The USDA Forest International Programs promotes sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation internationally. By linking the skills of the field-based staff of the USDA Forest Service with partners overseas to address the most critical forestry issues and concerns.  El Valor’s mission is to support and challenge urban families to achieve excellence and participate fully in community life.

 Students will participate in International Programs meetings and activities, including Technical Cooperation, Policy, Disaster Assistance Support, and Outreach and Partnerships staffs. Students will review documents, write issue and program summaries, make recommendations, as well as attend meetings with partners, discuss international work with other Federal Agencies and partners, sit in on Congressional hearings and sessions, review individual programs of Forest Service staffs.  This is a paid internship, including hourly wage, transportation to Washington, DC, housing allowance, and DC commuting expenses.

Maine Conservation Corps 2008

The Maine Conservation Corps is dedicated to accomplishing outdoor recreation and conservation projects.  MCC engages teams throughout the State of Maine.

 May 21 to August 15, 2008
May 21 to November 14, 2008

 Have the ability to live and perform strenuous work under challenging conditions, have the desire to learn and serve with others to make a difference, be at least 18 years old, and must be a US citizen.  Compensation: $240 per week and health insurance plus a $1250 or $2360 AmeriCorps education award if eligible.
