Come hear leaders from different faiths offer religious perspectives on environmental conservation. This panel is one in a series of panels occurring the last week of January as part of "Focus the Nation," a nation-wide week of education and awareness about climate change.

Rapid-fire Symposium: Energy
Thursday, January 31st from 3:30 – 6:30pm
Barus & Holley Hall, Room 168, 182 Hope Street, Brown University
A series of 5-minute talks by members of the Brown, RISD and Providence communities highlighting the many energy-related research and action projects that are underway. Research talks are grouped early in the afternoon (3:30 pm - 5 pm). Community and other action-oriented projects present later in the afternoon (5:30-6:30), with a networking reception at 5 pm.
Topics cover a wide range of activities, including green building, design of offshore wind turbines, carbon fuel cells, the clean development mechanism, low energy vehicle design, the solar decathlon, and many others.

Professor Phadke's research and teaching is at the nexus of environmental studies, international development and science and technology studies.
Her interests lie in the democratization of science and technology decision-making and the hybridization of technical expertise and local knowledge. Her current research focuses on private and public development of water resources.
In addition to her water related work, she is developing new projects in the fields of wind energy and desalination.

Dauphin Island Sea Lab Internships
The Marine Ecology Lab at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab has 4 (2 summer and 2 fall) 3-month internship opportunities available to qualified undergraduates looking for experience in marine ecology.
We are seeking applicants to help conduct research on several projects being conducted in various benthic communities along the northern Gulf Coast. Projects focus on seagrass restoration and monitoring, juvenile snappers and gag grouper habitat assessment, and ecosystem services of restored oyster reefs in Mobile Bay. Research will be based at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and interns will work closely with Professor Ken Heck.

John A. Knauss Fellowship - Due February 29th!
The National Sea Grant John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship was established to provide a unique educational experience to students enrolled in graduate programs in fields related to marine or Great Lakes studies. The program matches highly qualified graduate students with "hosts" in the Legislative Branch, the Executive Branch, or appropriate associations/institutions located in the Washington, DC area.
For one year the recipients work on substantive national policy issues related to aquatic resources. The recipients are officially designated Dean John A.
