Implications
for malaria control
Many might argue that the
predictions that climate change will have effects on malaria rates implies that
malaria control efforts should not be lessened or even discontinued. This assertion does not make sense, however, because although
climate has affected malaria throughout history, malaria control has still been
effective. Although this study
found that increases in mean temperature in Karnataka, India were correlated to
decreases in malaria transmission, most studies have found results that presume
that malaria incidence will likely increase under current climate change
predictions. Malaria control
efforts should continue nonetheless, especially because of the increasing spread
of resistant vectors and parasites. |
