Figure 16

Aggregate Village-level Vegetation Change 1976-1980

Derived by Spectral Mixture Analysis

This image shows areas of mixed land use around two villages. The circles in red and purple show a 10km radius circle, an estimate of the area of influence for each village. The small black and white plots below the river are extreme increases and decreases in vegetation cover, characteristic of shifting agriculture. On the village-level vegetation increases were minor from 1972-1980 relative to areas of large-scale agriculture.
