Recommendations

My recommendation to the Charlestown Planning Commission for the Openspace Plan is to follow the scoring system created using the web survey.

The differences between the two scoring systems that I tested are small, which gives credibility to the values that will be put into this plan.

Despite this small difference, after examining the way the scoring systems rank the land in Charlestown, it is apparent that the web survey based scoring system has the potential to protect more resources then the scoring system developed by the Conservation and Planning Commissions for the same amount of money. The analysis of the difference between the scoring systems illustrates this finding in detail.

Finally, I believe that a GIS based scoring system should be used as one component when analyzing parcels for acquisition, but the data limitations of this study should not cause the process of evaluating parcels to be compromised.

Additional information should be gathered about every potential parcel, and all information should be included in the evaluation of that parcel. More discussion of this is in the limitations section of the point system.
