Wetlands, Wetland Buffers, and Surface Water

These coverages where used in both the buildout and the openspace analysis.

Wetlands

The wetlands coverage comes from the RIGIS database. The intended use for the coverage is land use planning, which fits with the its use in this study.

The spatial resolution of this coverage is one quarter of an acre. For buildout, this could have dramatic effects on the number of houses that are estimated to be built on each specific lot, but these effects will most likely not be seen on the aggregate.

Wetland Buffers

The wetland buffers were created in Arc Info using the buffer command set at 300 ft. These buffers were used for the openspace study. 50 ft buffers were created for the buildout study. The spatial resolution of these buffers is comparable to the spatial resolution of the original coverages.

Surface Water

Surface water is comprised of 2 coverages. The rivers are from the hydrolines coverage, and the water bodies are derived from the parcel coverage.

The hydrolines coverage was created by interpreting aerial photographs, and has a resolution of 20 ft.
