The Process of Creating the Scoring Systems
The scoring systems were created through a collaborative
process with the Planning and Conservation Commissions and through
the web survey. Planning workshops were used as a forum for discussion
of the scoring system. This process was facilitated by guidance
from the two Brown University researchers.

A survey was created and given to members of
both the planning and conservation commissions at one of the
a series of workshops dedicated to the Charlestown Openspace
Plan. This survey provided
guidance to create a draft
version of a scoring system. There was discussion among the
commissioners until a consensus was reached as to the relative
importance of each resource.
In addition to this scoring system, the Charlestown
Openspace Prioritization Project conducted a web survey
to gather information from the general public. The results
of this scoring system were used to create an additional scoring
system.

These two scoring systems
were analyzed separately to understand the differences in their
potential impacts. The differences between these scoring systems
should be used to help the Planning and Conservation Commissions
set their final priorities in the Charlestown Openspace Plan.
