Next Steps

The following is a list of recommended next steps for the Charlestown Planning Commission:

  • Because the process of growth management policy creation is iterative, the planning community should continue efforts to prioritize land for preservation purposes. This can be initially facilitated by addressing sites that were not included in the Prioritization Project, but that were suggested by survey respondents. Further prioritization efforts could developed through additional online surveys. Emailing short surveys or questionaires to participants from the Prioritization Project could yield significant public input for prioritization purposes. Below is a list of suggested sites that are ready for further investigation, accompanied by plat and lot information:
    • Black Pond Area (023-109-000)
    • Farm on Old Coach Road (027-058-000, 027-003-000)
    • Farm on West Beach Road, at the intersection of Rt. 1
      (04-069-001, 04-069-000, 04-069-005)
    • Undeveloped Land between Biscuit City Road and Maple Lake Farm Road
      (029-043-000, 029-065-000, 029-061-000)

  • The Planning Commission should focus its efforts to understand strategic management options and potential applications in Charlestown.

  • The Planning Commission should pursue its options for funding public openspace acquisition through RI DEM's four primary programs
