Site-Specific Findings

38 respondents (14 Phase II)

While respondents are more neutral about appropriate uses for this site, if it were acquired as openspace, wilderness preserves with hiking paths and a setting/picnic area were preferred. 6. What changes, if any, would you make to improve this landscape?

  • If structurally sound, could use a coat of paint!
  • Demolish it.
  • Remove the water tower.
  • From the pictures, it is an eyesore.
  • Could use some improvement
  • This site is important for the people employed by Kenyon Mills. The balance between openspace and economic stability, especially for working-class people, is crucial to maintain. However, the water in the river and marshes flowing by the mill and into Shannock, out to the Pawcatuck and Wood Rivers, is far from clean.
  • The physical plant employs many. It's a big part of our tax base. Let us not discourage another Textile Co. We need to help existing industry continue. Maybe the town should help the company restore the water tower which apparently is a concern to others. This plant is definitely one of the historical sites and holds many memories for our community. This is a part of our heritage. Don't get so nice that you can't let others exist.
