Site-Specific Findings

39 respondents (13 Phase II)

Although this site ranked last in the analysis of time spent at survey sites, it is moderately valued as potential openspace. This suggests that residents would most likely support preservation of this site as a more private openspace that does not necessarily require high accessibility. As evidenced by findings for the final site questions, respondents prefer usage of this site that would require minimal alterations to the current environment and allow for minimal accessibility. The longitudinal analysis of respondent age found that valuation of this site as an important place to have protected as openspace decreases with age. While younger respondents report moderate valuation of this site, older respondents think that this site is not that important to see protected as openspace.

6. What changes, if any, would you make to improve this landscape?

  • There are so few farms in South County producing anything other than turf that it is imperative not only to preserve but to increase viable farm land and keep it working everywhere we can. Part of an openspace plan should be to develop local production and distribution of (preferably organic) meats and produce.
  • All of the sites you have shown us are primarily pastureland. I think openspace should focus as much on forested landscape, since that is the native vegetation for the region. This farm appears to be too small for useful wildlife habitat, as most grasslands birds need fields at least 5 acres in size for nesting habitat.
  • Farm land is becoming very scarce and it is an important part of the history in the So. County area, so I believe every effort should be made to preserve what's left.
  • Basic house keeping, free of trash.
  • None, leave as is
