Site-Specific Findings

44 respondents (14 Phase II)

Respondents report that the most appropriate uses for this site, if acquired as openspace, would be to use it as a wildlife preserve with hiking paths or for a setting/picnic area. The longitudinal analysis of residence time found that this site is the fourth most important potential openspace for respondents who have lived in Charlestown for 3-10 years.

6. What changes, if any, would you make to improve this landscape?

  • Develop fishing areas
  • The end or beginning of many canoe trips
  • It's the Pawcatuck River, not the Wood River.
  • This is not the Wood River. It is the Charles River at Richmond Fishing Area which joins the Wood River further downstream to become the Pawcatuck. The Wood River crosses Rt. 91 just past Alton before Collins Rd., about a mile and a half toward Westerly from here. I would provide trash receptacles for fishermen at the fishing access here.
  • Maintain its beauty and natural settings. If possible to have small travel craft (i.e. canoes, paddle boats) and still maintain its clean, pristine, natural beauty.
  • Nice spot to acquire.
  • Provide picnic facilities.
  • Area lends itself to limited family style camping with fishing and hiking area.
