**Note: The postcard mailing was sent out to a list of about 1000 people who had written a letter of support for the American Heritage River designation. Almost 300 of the postcards were returned undeliverable.

Clearly, the work environment, combined with the postcard mailing were the dominant forms of communication. Methods like the press release and postering, although not effective in this study, should not be discounted before a thorough communication analysis. (See Conclusions-- Education and Outreach for further discussion.)
