Distribution: Stakeholders

Who is considered a stakeholder?

Since funding for the development of the Action Plan and most of its associated projects will come from the state, any taxpayer in Rhode Island is technically eligible to participate.

However, the local focus on the Action Plan, and the intent behind it as a locally-driven initiative lend weight to the priorities of watershed residents, residents of watershed communities, and the government and nonprofit stakeholders. The survey and its distribution were designed to target these groups.

Stakeholders (to name just a few)
DEM Staff Historic Preservation Associations
Town planners Pond Associations
Northern Rhode Island Conservation District RI Department of Health
Narragansett Bay Commision Chambers of Commerce
Audubon Society of Rhode Island Land trusts/Conservation Commissions
Dam Owners Associations Municipal officials

How were these groups contacted?

In addition, distrubution of the survey served the goal of a preliminary watershed outreach effort. We hoped to reach an audience that had not been reached prior and that might not be aware of its status as a "stakeholder" in the watershed. Certainly, there is much work yet to be done and results from the survey point to a serious need for outreach efforts in the watershed.
