How do we set priorities for the next 1-3 years?

The Draft Action Plan for the Woonasquatucket came from the input of many stakeholders, gathered individually in meetings and through communication with the coordinators. This collection of information, because it was so thorough, meant that there would need to be some system of prioritization.

A Survey, distributed to a wider audience than could be accessed through traditional methods, could provide an opportunity to determine quantitatively which of the many issues were the highest priority for the watershed stakeholders.

Stakeholder participation

Stakeholders up until this point consisted of state and federal agency personnel, town planners, and a handful of environmental organization and community representatives.

The watershed approach, however, is based heavily on a grassroots ideal where all stakeholders have an opportunity to participate in the planning and management of their watershed.

By distributing a survey that would reach a wider audience and provide a point of access to the watershed plan, this ideal of the watershed approach might be approached more closely.

Test of communication

Because so much of the success of the watershed approach depends on efficient and effective communication between stakeholders, a study examining some different strategies seemed prudent.
