background : : : Block Revitalization for Maximum Effect

The renovation projects described in my case studies all have at least one thing in common: they are part of a movement to revitalize a whole city block at once. This method, called Block Revitalization, aims to rehabilitate many houses and fix as many code violations as possible at once. By putting funding into whole neighborhoods instead of piecemeal houses, RI Housing and individual nonprofits claim to be "making a statement about [their] confidence in the community"(17) Block revitalization comes in many forms, but usually these projects include more than two or three houses.
