The following maps and figures illustrate the various phenomena being discussed
as part of the urban challenge to good garbage management. All three figures were
extracted, with permission, from documentation by The Providence Plan on the demographic makeup of Providence.

This piechart is for the entire city of Providence, based on the 2000 Census. Notice that non-Hispanic whites make up, for the first time, a minority. This is especially the case in the urban core neighborhoods of the city. The map below, on the left shows this more clearly.

This map shows birth by race, by neighborhood. Notice how the Hispanic, Black, and Asian populations are congregated in the central and south parts of the city.
This map shows the high transience rates that exist amongst residents of the urban core neighborhoods.
