FARGNOLI PARK

PARK CRIME - Understanding the Context of Crime

The crime maps shown here were generated with GIS software
(Arcview 3.2), using a crime report database for the entire city of
Providence. They express the 'density' of the mapped criminal violations,
meaning that both the distribution and the clustering of the violations are
conveyed. For more detailed information on the methodology involved
in creating the maps, go to Park Crime Methods and view the last section
entitled 'Processing and manipulating the resulting crime maps'.

The total crime density map illustrates that all the crime hotspots are located well away from the park (primarily further north-west on Smith Street), and this is paralleled by the patterns of the other crime-type violations. The Fargnoli Park region has only one drug violation and this is located several blocks west of the park (because there was only one drug violation, a density map was not created for it). The clustering of crime closest to the park's perimeter is on Smith Street at it's intersection with Sharon Street. This is primarily the result of the presence of a problem property located directly on that intersection, which has a handful of co-occuring violations.

(Note: The units for all density calculations are violations/acre)
