Although the Parks Department does not have a website,
more information on the city's open space, as well as programming
and activities, can be found through the contact list compiled by Bob
McMahon, Deputy Superintendent of the Parks Department.

Other Organizations Contributing to Open Space in Providence
Several private organizations have initiatives that are adding to the both the
quantity and quality of open and recreational space in the city. The following
list identifies some of these projects:

The Woonasquatucket River Greenway Project, administered by The Providence Plan, seeks to implement a plan for a greenway and bikepath that spans the entire length of the Providence section of the Woonasquatucket River. Several of the 'nodes' of the greenway, i.e. parks along the river, such as Merino Park, Donigian Park, and Buttonhole Golf Course have already been renovated and enhanced through the efforts of the project. The South Side Community Land Trust is a Providence organization that runs 12 community gardens that serve 200 families, as well as a certified organic farm, and a school-based environmental education program. To learn more about their philosophy and activities:

The Providence Neighborhood Planting Program is a "street tree planting and maintenance partnership between the City of Providence, the Mary Elizabeth Sharpe Street Tree Endowment, the Helen Walker Raleigh Tree Care Trust and the people of Providence, Rhode Island".
