URBAN PARKS

"If we can create the humane city…then the choice of city or
countryside will be between two excellences, each indispensable,
each different, both complimentary, both life-enhancing."
- Ian McHarg, Design With Nature

A city such as the one McHarg describes could not be possible without
the presence of parks and open spaces. They bring nature into the urban
setting, and their benefits for improving quality of life are numerous
and important. Unfortunately, parks face a series of challenges that can potentially threaten their well-being and success. Understanding these challenges is the first step to ensuring that parks are the beautiful and integral elements of cities that we deserve.
