High Performance Building Design at Brown University |
|
Being mindful of Brown University 's use of and adverse impacts on the Earth's natural resources, the University is committed to leading by example to integrate environmental awareness and responsibility throughout the University community. This document provides specific support for High Performance Building Design (HPBD) Guidelines and expresses commitment to achieving a LEED Silver Rating for each new campus building or major renovation project. Successful experience with HPBD will be criteria for a project's design team selection. Brown University will insist on integrated design processes and establish a full time energy manager position within the Department of Facilities Management. Expeditiously developing a more comprehensive model for evaluating the total cost benefit of project/program components taking into account initial investment (including capital cost), life cycle cost, performance, and environmental benefits and impacts is high priority for Brown University . Attention will be given to plans that address these concerns. |
