WHAT IS TOXICS RELEASE INVENTORY?
Section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and section 6607 of the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) specifically requires manufacturers to report releases of more than 600 designated toxic chemicals. The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) contains information regarding toxic chemicals that are being used, manufactured, treated, transported, or released into the environment. The reports are submitted to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state governments. Through EPCRA, Congress mandated that a Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) be made public. TRI provides citizens with accurate information about potentially hazardous chemicals and their use so that communities have more power to hold companies accountable and make informed decisions about how toxic chemicals are to be managed.
