The Narragansett Bay Commission was created in 1980 to reduce pollution and improve the quality of Narragansett Bay and its tributaries. The NBC owns and operates the state's two largest wastewater treatment facilities: the Field's Point facility in Providence and the Bucklin Point facility in East Providence. The NBC is a public corporation that provides wastewater collection and treatment services to over 360,000 customers in the metropolitan Providence and Blackstone Valley areas. In addition, the NBC is responsible for 89 miles of underground pipes, 83 combined sewer overflows, 32 tidegates, and 8 pump stations.
