If one of the large scale planting programs that we have suggested is implemented than Rhode Island is going to have to find a tree supplier to meet its needs. We recommend that Rhode Island supply Rhode Island with trees. Keeping Rhode Island money in Rhode Island should always be a priority, and this seems an excellent way to do this. A state owned and run tree farm would not only supply the state with all of the trees that it would need, but it would also create jobs within Rhode Island. Another possibility would be to provide incentives for local growers to begin to produce the types of trees that we have recommended for planting. We would also suggest that the farm or farms focus on container growing. The DOE sequestration models assume that a zero age tree is a fifteen gallon tree with a one inch dbh. Container grown trees will also require less work to plant that wrapped ball trees. Finally, we would suggest that such locations would also be perfect places for the use of waste water.
