Future

The fuThe future of the Jewelry District is the ultimate focus of this research.  The intent is to apply the past and present to the vision of the future.  This entails redeveloping properties in the Jewelry District in a manner that protects the public health, is safe environmentally (both for the present and future), economically productive, and compatible with the overall vision for Providence. As every action has a reaction, it is our hopes that the successful redevelopment of the Jewelry District will not be limited to the area itself, but will be linked to, and stimulate, redevelopment of brownfields and revitalization in adjacent neighborhoods, such as South Providence.

Although all stakeholders play a role in the successful transition of the Jewelry District into a thriving district of Providence, we, as Brown University students, hope that our University will play a leadership role that goes beyond its own interest in expanding its facilities, and helps make this broader vision a reality. Brown University, the City of Providence, Business, Districts, Developers and Providence Residents all have a vital role in the successful redevelopment of the Jewelry District.  By overcoming the perceived impediments associated with brownfields, the above stakeholders can transform the Jewelry District into a thriving area for Providence that will positively influence the economy, and the social and natural environments.
