Contamination of Heritage Harbor Museum / Dynamo House Site
SOILS – As, Pb, Hg, TPH
Bottom line: Arsenic, lead, mercury and TPH exceed RIDEM standards.
Environmental consultants Vanasse, Hangen & Brustlin found TPH, arsenic and lead in soil samples that exceeded residential direct exposure standards, meaning that they exceeded the cleanup and public health standard for residential use, in cases where people might come into contact with soil. The commercial and industrial soil standard was also exceeded.
WATER – As, Pb, PAH, TPH
Bottom line: PAH, TPH, arsenic and lead exceed RIDEM standards. PAH thought to have traveled from off-site
PAH chemicals were found in groundwater samples on the westernmost border of the property, including trace concentrations of chlorinated solvents and vinyl chloride. The assumption is that these contaminants traveled from offsite, based on what is known about groundwater flow for the area {link to upcoming section “Environmental Implications: Geology”}.10
VHB found TPH that exceeded groundwater standards for non-potable water. Residential groundwater standards, set by RIDEM, were exceeded by TPH, arsenic and lead.6
