One of the hardest tasks in redevelopment may be taking an idea and translating it into reality. The purpose of this section is to inform and empower stakeholders in the redevelopment of the Jewelry District.  We looked at present conditions and developed a toolkit that includes information about current stakeholders and agencies that already play a role or will need to be involved in redevelopment as well as regulations that govern cleanup and/or affect redevelopment, and programs that provide incentives and assistance.  Specifically, stakeholders and organizations integral to redevelopment, as well as regulations and incentives are listed to facilitate the process.

Also, we identified chemicals associated with the historical, in particular industrial, land uses as a first step in determining what type and how much contamination may be present.  We reviewed regulatory files or case studies for certain sites to compare the expected contamination levels (based on past uses) with the actual levels (observed during and after cleanup or redevelopment).  These sites include: 1) the proposed location of the Heritage Harbor Museum and Dynamo House; 2) 70 Ship Street - Brown University's Molecular Biology Laboratories building; and 3) Belvoir (needs descriptive/address). The neighboring district of South Providence was also analyzed for its present relationship to the Jewelry District.
