| With
Charlestown's picturesque coastline, quaint villages,
historic farms, and general rural character, it is no
wonder that usually during the summer months the population
more than quadruples. The Comprehensive Plan identifies
that the town's main focus for economic development will
be to stress the town's rich natural resources to expand
its tourist market.
With this
proposed large influx of users and especially in the
hot, drier summer months, the town should keep its drinking
water quantity and quality in mind.
The excess
of undeveloped industrially and
commercially zoned land is an indicator that the
development of other industries is not feasible because
of the town's remote location from any major highway,
lack of infrastructure (public water and sewer), and
its large amount of sensitive natural resources (i.e.
wetlands).
