Organizations at work in the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed

The Pawcatuck Watershed Partnership: A coalition of experts from EPA, NRCS, RIDEM, and URI provide support and technical assistance to organizations interested in preserving watershed resources on a sustainable basis. Contact Rob Adler (617) 565-9306

A Water Use Stakeholders Group: A division of the Pawcatuck Watershed Partnership addresses various issues, concerns and conflicts related to water use in this watershed. The focus of this group it to devise non-regulatory approaches to managing water for both human and environmental needs. University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension: Provides educational programs, publications, and events to help protect and improve the state's water. The Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association: A nonprofit organization whose mission is to, "promote and protect the lands and waters of the Wood-Pawcatuck watershed." This association relies on member support for its activities and funding. It is active in providing educational opportunities to schools. Contact, Nina Rocks, (401) 539-9017

The Audubon Society of RI: This organization's headquarters are open to the public who can browse through their educational exhibits. This chapter of the National Audubon Society is open to membership and maintains several sanctuaries within this watershed and offers volunteer opportunities through which to involve its members. The Sierra Club has a great site where you can log your opinions and find out about what others are doing to rally for a variety of environmental issues.
