Keeping
Hopkinton's water clean is a top priority for residents
and council members alike. Many potential threats to water
quality exist, making it important that current and future
developments plan for their impact on water quality. The
town council is considering an ordinance that would help
prevent contamination by developing a program to address
leaking storage tanks and that will also guide development
in sensitive areas. |
| Hokinton
is situated in the Wood-Pawcatuck watershed, which spans
through much of the southern part of Rhode Island and
into Connecticut. Clearly, with groundwater passing between
town boundaries, the need exists for interaction between
all town officials in the watershed to prevent contamination
and to promote water quality. For more information about
the watershed and information about inter-town cooperation,
please see the Environmental Protection Agency's watershed
profile page or the EPA's
Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed fact sheet. |
