Strategies towards Open Space Preservation
Richmond Municipal Land Trust,
formed in 1998, prioritizes parcels that the town
would like to preserve. Thus far, the Richmond
Land Trust owns 2 parcels of about 60 acres total.
The Land Trust is looking to secure two more parcels
of about 90 acres soon. (Town
planner, personal communication)
South County Greenspace Project
to identify priority openspace areas, to be integrated
into a regional effort. Volunteer citizen committees,
working with a consultant from Dodson Associates,
will develop a Richmond Greenspace Plan through
the use of GIS maps.
1997 Comprehensive Plan includes
a plan to establish heritage and conservation
districts. This has not yet been realized.
Funding sources for open space include: Municipal
land trust, Private land trusts (Nature Conservancy,
Audubon), and with State Bond money.
