Richmond is located within
the Pawcutuck-Wood Watershed (link to watershed
page). Its many streams have historically served
as sites for saw mills and textile mills. Protecting
these surface waters
is important for recreation and wildlife habitat.
As Richmond grows, continued
access to safe drinking
water remains a #1 priority. All of Richmond's
drinking water is groundwater.
95% of Richmond residents are
served by on-site wells. Richmond Water Supply
Board serves 89 residencies and 31 businesses
(1996). Future developments, such as Stilson
Road, will be supplied by an extended water
supply line.

Richmond has applied for a grant
that would fund a study for a Water Supply Plan. This
would include a study of waste
water managament practices, necessary for Richmond
to create a sewer line for new developments.
