Surface Water

Surface water in South Kingstown is used mainly for recreation. Green Hill Pond, which is partly in Charlestown, is a great example of the use of surface water for recreation used. This is a salt pond that many residents enjoy and brings in summer visitors who also enjoy it. Fishing and shell fishing are also important in Green Hill Pond.

Point Judith and Potter ponds are used by hundreds of recreational fishermen. There are also three commercially harvested species. Narrow River, which is actually an estuary also is an important resource. Threats to surface water include:s

Permanent channels that have affected ecological populations.

Pollution mainly from surface runoff.
