| Undeveloped
Land
Although
development is on the increase there is still
a lot of land that is undeveloped (see land-use
map). Undeveloped land includes land that is protected
by the town, state and federal governments. Additionally,
undeveloped land may be "openspace"
that is protected by private people and organizations,
like Audubon.
Agricultural land, brushland and wetlands are
also considered undeveloped. It is possible that
some of this "undeveloped"
land will be developed in the future.
1,184
acres of undeveloped land was lost to residential
development between 1986 and 1990 (South Kingstown
Comprehensive Plan).
A notable
objective in the Comprehensive Plan is to keep
undeveloped land around sensitive environmental
resources.
To see
land that cannot be developed look at the protected
openspace map.

This
map shows developed and undeveloped land,
wetlands, surface water and forests. It
is possible that the undeveloped land
and forests will be able to be developed
in the future, although some of this land
is protected. (see statistics for exact
numbers)
