Threatened ecosystems: Israel has extremely high ecological diversity because of steep climate gradients, varied topography and its location as a geographic bridge between continents. Across Israel, ecosystems are threatened by a combination of development threats, including urban and sub-urban sprawl and road building, hunting, mining, over-exploitation of water resources, tourism pressure, and fragmentation of habitat. Below is a small sample of ecosystems in danger of being completely eliminated locally.
